Trackside Broadcasting Expert Handicapper Profiles

Bob Pandolfo

Bob Pandolfo - otherwise known as Pandy, has been handicapping professionally for 23 years. His popular "Pandycapping" columns on thoroughbred handicapping and harness handicapping have appeared in many publications including The Daily Racing Form, and Sports Eye, and currently at www.ustrotting.com/handicapping/pandolfo/pandy.cfm. Pandolfo is also a regular contributor to American Turf Monthly www.americanturf.com.

Pandolfo developed the popular Diamond System handicapping software, a compounded rating system that spots live longshots and has correctly tabbed many double-digit winners at both thoroughbred and harness tracks.

Pandolfo's "Pandy's Picks" are legendary among savvy New York throughbred and harness players, and his record at the Southern California flat tracks the past few years is amazing.

Steve Terjanian

Steve Terjanian - Better known as “Catskill” Steve in Monticello Raceway circles has been handicapping harness races since the late 60’s when he was snuck into Monticello, Yonkers and Roosevelt by his late brother and father. In later years, The Meadowlands was added to his list of tracks to handicap. In recent years, most of my time is devoted to Monticello. The early part of 2000 saw me with a weekly segment on the TVG Racing Network where I was interviewed via the phone and gave out my plays of the day at the Mighty M and my reasons for liking the horses. In 2001 I was the harness handicapper for the Horsecappertv.com web page with daily picks and spot plays at all the tracks on the NY, NJ and PA circuits. I am an active member of the U.S. Harness Writers Association and produce a weekly column for the USTA web page www.ustrotting.com. I look forward to enhancing the Trackside Broadcasting web site with my 35 years plus in harness handicapping experience.

Bill Zettler

Bill Zettler - I have been following the California tracks for over 20-years and have done very well with them.

I watch the tapes of ALL the races, read the charts, take notes, and give each horse a figure for next time out.

Every horse that I give out, I bet on myself. Why should'nt I, if I expect you too? Give me a try, you won't be sorry!!

Kristin Slape

Kristin Slape has an Associates Degree in Journalism and has worked as a sports correspondent for Pulitzer Community Newspapers out of Chicago. She has always had an interest in horses and thoroughbred racing in Chicago in particular.

Her interest in handicapping started in the mid 80's when she decided to "get schooled" and started attending handicapping seminars and acquired a library of handicapping books so she could learn from the best including Tom Ainslie, Andrew Beyer and Ray Taulbot, to name a few. Of course the real education came by practice and Kristin has been a handicapping and betting on races successfully for more than 20 years.

Kristin's main tracks include Chicago's Arlington Park (boasting a 49% win percentage this season) and Hawthorne Racecourse, but she also has a fondness for Mountaineer Park and Delta Downs. Kristin likes to find longshots and does so quite often, but she will also tell you when it's justified to play the chalk.

Kristin has won several local/national handicapping contests and one in particular, which was a national contest, she picked 7 winners out of 10 races, the three remaining races she placed.

Kristin will share her love for the sport with you while helping you to increase your bank roll.

Joe Mancuso

Joe Mancuso also known as JOTB and I have been handicapping Finger Lakes Racetrack for over 35 years.

My father owned horses at Finger Lakes since I was 10 years old, so I started spending time around the track and on the backside at the barns at an early age.

I handicap and play Finger Lakes every day. I've developed a handicapping system that along with my favorite angles has been very profitable for me.

My favorite plays are the picks, the pick-3, and the pick-4. You will find that my betting strategies won't cost you too much but, the profits can be quite lucrative.

I would like to share my selections and betting startigies with others that love the game the same as I do. The bets I give you will be the bets I'm making so when I win you win!!!

One of the best things I learned from my father who loved this game, was that whether you win or lose you do so with a smile because you are doing something you really enjoy.

Al Goblick

I grew up and been around horses and the race track all my life. I would read the Daily Racing Form or the Mourning Telegraph after my Dad was done with them. I got my first license at age 15 at old Tropical Park, my first owners license in the mid seventies while in college and my trainers license in 1981. Won my first race in May of that year at Hialeah Park which to this day is my favorite race track.

I've raced around in Florida during the winters and in the East, northeast and the Midwest in the summer. My biggest win as a trainer came on the under card of Ferdinands 1986 derby win. We won the WHAS Stake which was for two year olds. Made a little score that day too.

I no longer train but follow the races daily. I'm a Daily Racing Form guy and use the charts which I download and save from several tracks and am big into pedigree books and handicapping also. My selections will be from tracks I follow and my spot plays will be from certain types of races I feel I am strong at and have a strong opinion on.

Good luck and good racing.

Trodder Furlong

Hi !! My name is Trodder Furlong I have been involved in horse racing since the age of five. I grew up 10 minutes away from Aqueduct and Belmont. While most kids spent their time reading comics books I was busy studying the Daily Racing Form. I have spent the last ten years of my life as a professional handicapper and have recently parlayed my winnings into a 5 bedroom house in Saratoga!! It might sound simple but I have realized the key to horse racing is maximizing your winnings and minimizing your losses. I am a value guy and look for spots where the favorite is vulnerable. I hope you enjoy my picks and "May All Your Longshots Go Wire To Wire!!"

The Turfsage

Cal Waite, a retired real estate loan consultant, known privately by turf club regulars in Northern California as the one-and-only TURFSAGE (“sage” as in all-knowing, and “turf” as in matters relating to the track), Cal got his start 28 years ago at Golden Gate Fields / Bay Meadows. For 15 of those years, he was at the track five days a week.

Never a chalk player, his specialty is finding those 5 to 25 to 1 morning line shots which are ready to fire, even after finishing up the track (sometimes way up the track) in their last race. He took a “system” from a racing magazine in 1982 and has refined it to score with many $40 plus winners over the years. Parlaying multiple qualifiers (round robin two horse parlays if more than two qualifiers on a card) at the same track has returned many thousands of dollars in a given day.

Another specialty is two year old maidens, especially first time starters, and first time turf starters of any age, who hit for sometimes huge prices. Private workout reports and Tomlinson figures are analyzed in depth, and trainer/jockey angles are factored in. A $150 winner on a first time starter in 2002 brought him a huge Pick 6 win, in excess of $100,000 on a non-carryover day in Southern California.

Years of turf club and clubhouse conversations with other handicappers, owners, trainers, and even regulars who have backside connections, have provided a huge vault of information on west coast racing ins and outs. Cal is dedicated to providing you with winners not really noticed by the betting public, hence the prices make it all worthwhile.

He was born in Ft. Worth, Texas and currently lives south of the D-FW metroplex.
